What started as an investment in my future transformed into a new direction for my life. With the support of some incredible people and a lot of hard work, I have been able to find my passion and fulfill my greater purpose.
I was just 19 years old when I purchased my first home. It was a symbol of independence and maturity, and the experience prompted me to rethink my whole life plan. I always thought I wanted to be a nurse. I wanted to help people, but after getting started, I realized the medical field just wasn’t my passion. Throughout high school, I worked as a server, gradually working my way up in the hospitality industry. By the time I graduated, I was responsible for opening restaurants throughout the western states.
I have always been ambitious and willing to do the work for the things I want. My parents have always encouraged me and taught me important life values. My father helped me find my first apartment at 18. After paying rent for a few months, I felt my money was being wasted. That’s when I started saving up every penny for my first home.
Every step of the home-buying process was fascinating for me, from finding financing to going to showings and finally closing. As soon as I closed on my first house, I knew I wanted to get into real estate. It incorporated everything I was passionate about, including meeting people, helping them and having the opportunity to serve my community.
In 1996, I received my REALTORS® license. I worked as an assistant to a seasoned agent, Lea Archer. She taught me a lot and helped me transition into the industry. She always encouraged me to go out on my own, but I was hesitant to leave behind the stability. When I decided to take the leap, she was so excited for me and said, “Finally! I have been trying to push you out for years!”
The transition to becoming a full-time agent was not without its difficulties, but my daughter, Peyton, was the ultimate motivation. Not only did I need to provide for her, but I also wanted to set a positive example. If you believe in yourself and are passionate about what you do, nothing can stop you!
With that mindset, I work hard for my clients, doing everything in my power to create a fantastic experience for them. That kind of commitment takes a lot of time. At times, I had to set up a makeshift desk while attending Peyton’s events, but it was certainly worth it.
The results of my hard work? A great first year! I proved to myself that I could do this and be successful at it. I’ve now been in real estate for 26 years and have built an amazing career. There is always room to grow, and that is one of the things I love most about real estate.
When I am not working, I am spending time with my daughter. We share a love of outdoor activities like hiking, hitting the trails on the side-by-side, and riding horses. She has been riding horses for most of her life. To me, following your passions is very important. Peyton still rides and ropes every day and is a horse trainer. Watching her chase her dreams is fulfilling for me.
We also spend time each year organizing the Christmas Angel Adventure, an experience that we created for children in our community. When I look back on my journey so far, my top priority was to find a way to help people. I believe you get out of life what you give.
I am proud of my journey and all that I have accomplished as a real estate agent and mother. Throughout the years, I have received awards, but I have never held much value to them. I care about making a difference in people’s lives. In real estate, my client’s satisfaction and happiness is the ultimate goal. I work hard to not only achieve my client’s goals but also to make the process easy and enjoyable along the way. Buying and selling is a big accomplishment and should be fun.
As a licensed REALTOR® since 1996, my experience and industry knowledge are key assets to every transaction. Whether you are buying, selling, investing, or renting – I have done it all and will happily help you realize your dreams. Once the transaction is over, I will continue to offer my services and professional guidance as your REALTOR® for life.
Sincerely,
Shannon Everett
